Prepare to eat dinner late. Most Italian restaurants, especially the good ones, don’t open until 7pm. But with the slower pace of life in Italy, this simply gives you more time to explore the quaint streets and the world-famous art galleries and build up an appetite for some fine Italian cuisine.

Learn Some Italian

After all, it is what’s spoken in Italy! These days there are plenty of tools to help you learn Italian, too. From great free apps to taking some online classes before heading out to Italy, you can pick up some key phrases easily. This will make your trip that bit more accessible.

Don’t Go in the Summer

Of course, Italy in the summer is the dream. Romance, sun kissed beaches, and long days basking in the heat… what’s not to love? But the summer months also draw in the most tourists, especially in August. So, when booking your vacation, consider an off peak time

You’ll Get Lost

Yes, this will happen and it’s not always as romantic as you’d imagine. The winding rural Italian roads, where phone signal is hard to come by, aren’t easy to navigate. So, make sure you have an offline map on your smartphone just in case you take a wrong turn!

Use the Trains

The train network in Italy is fast and efficient. You can, for example, travel between Rome and Naples in just over an hour, and it takes just ninety minutes to journey between Rome and Florence. With some of Europe’s fastest trains, and some of the most scenic countryside to travel through, Italian trains are a great way to see the country.
