For spring we’ve asked our popular Rome tour guide Francesca where she would spend a beautiful spring day in Italy.

Francesca, who was born in Rome and has been a licensed tour guide with us for more than a decade, studied Roman Archeology at university and worked as an archeologist before her love of historical exploration and research led to her present career. Her love for the city of her birth runs deep.

“Even as a tour guide for many years I can tell you that every day I find something new and interesting in the story of my city,” she explains.

She would, even after all her years taking travelers on the Small Group Tour of Ancient Rome and other Rome day tours and excursions, return to explore these remnants of the mighty Roman Empire on her own.

“My favorite places are the Colosseum, Roman Forum and Pantheon. Here you can still feel the grandeur of a glorious past,” enthuses Francesca.

She is also drawn to other examples of Rome’s generations of political intrigue and artistic triumph: “There are also so many other interesting places to visit, such as little churches, palaces of noble families and less famous museums with very interesting art collections. Not to mention marvelous parks to take a rest on a sunny spring day and have a picnic.”

For those wanting to explore a little outside the romantic heart of the city of Rome, Francesca says: “If you want to spent a day somewhere near Rome you must see the Castelli Romani.”
