The recently restored Maximillian tower dominates the little beach where Venetians traditionally go for an outing and to swim. Dating from the year 1800, this fully restored fortress is an illustrious remnant of the Austrian military presence that once protected the lagoon. The tower was named after Archduke Maximillian who sought refuge in the tower in 1848.

Located close to the island of Burano it is acessable by public transportation. Beach-lovers might choose this island as a destination to spend a relaxing afternoon away from the crowds on Venice 's main beach at the Lido . At the wharf you can hire bicycles to enjoy a ride around the island.
