We did this combo tour in mid-May 2015.

Gondola ride - this was what I was most looking forward to on our 3 city trip through Italy. While I did enjoy this ride, I think it could have been much better. The description lists specific sites that you will see along the way but the gondolier doesn't point anything out to you. If this is how the tour was supposed to be, it would be nice if the description just said that and didn't mention what you would see. Unless you are going to point it out, don't say you see them.
I did like the fact that we went down the back canals, as opposed to the Grand Canal, but again, you didn't know what any of the buildings were. There were also times when the gondola traffic got so bad, we had to sit and wait for others to go by or for our turn to move around the other ones.
My fiance and I got lucky in that we were the first two on the boat and therefore we got the best seats in the house (the two immediately in front of the gondolier). The other 2 couples on our gondola were not as lucky. Two had to sit across from each other, and the other two weren't even sitting by each other. I was glad that didn't happen to us.

As for the walking tour, this was by far the worst tour of our entire trip (we did one in Florence & one in Rome through this company). Our group was way too large for us to be able to enjoy touring this city. The streets are so narrow that you had to walk in a single file line through most of it and because there were 30 of us in this group, the second half of us couldn't hear our tour guide through the headphones when we were stretched into a line. I guess the range of the transmitter wasn't strong enough to reach the back half of us. Also, instead of explaining what we were about to see before we saw it (which would help for those of us in the back) she would discuss it as she got to it. So we would either not hear it at all because we were so far back, or if we heard it, it would take us another several minutes to get to the point where it was and we weren't sure what exactly she was talking about.

I understand that Venice is made up of very narrow and winding streets (which I love!) but knowing this, the company should not allow such large groups for these tours. It just doesn't make sense. At a maximum, there should have only been 15 people to a group, but would have been better with no more than 10. As much as I loved Venice, this tour was extremely disappointing and actually quite frustrating to be on. I wouldn't waste your money on the walking tour portion unless you know you will have a smaller group.

Really good walking tour last Saturday. The Guide's English was excellent and the priority access to the Basilica very worthwhile as there was 40 minute queue. Her explanations were good. The speed of walking was too much for some more elderly members of our tour though not for us.

Gondola ride was fine. Good gondolier and prompt departure. The ride didn't really explore the city as when on the journey we were often queuing behind other gondoliers and so stationary - perhaps some variation in route would help with this.

The walking tour was very interesting and well managed and we were able to get a good sit down and lunch before the gondola in the afternoon. Money extremely well spent for a wonderful day out.

The walking tour in the morning with Federica (not sure of spelling) was very good. We learned a lot not just about what we saw on the tour but also Venice life today and a bit of Venetian history. We also benefited from a quick entry to St Mark's and very deftly avoided the big crowds and a bit of the high tide. We feel we got our money's worth. In the afternoon, the arranged gondola ride was an efficient way for us to have that experience while in Venice.
