Enjoy a fascinating tour the archaeological remains of Ostia, whose name is derived from the Latin word ostium which literally means mouth. Situated at the mouth of the river Tiber, it was the military and commercial seaport of Rome.
In Ancient Times, the main streets of Ostia were lined with shops, warehouses and inns. Its bars, brothels and baths were crowded with sailors and merchants from all the corners of the empire.
Taking a stroll along the Decumanus Maximus, Ostia's main street, and shaded by tall umbrella pines we'll enjoy the nice sea breeze and visit the Baths of Neptune with its fabulous mosaics, the Theatre, the Mill and Bakery of Roman times.
At the Thermopolium you can still see an ancient counter where drinks were served and imagine sipping a cup of Roman wine while hearing the conversation of shipbuilders and traders!
And then to Ostia's main square: the Forum with the imposing ruins of the Capitolium: the largest temple in Ostia dedicated to the Capitoline triad, Juno, Jupiter and Minerva.
Tour Duration: 4 hours, including travelling from/to central Rome.

"On September 2. 2003, my family and I took your Discovering
San Polo & Dorsoduro walk. We all loved the tour - even those
who were originally less than enthusiastic about the idea of a
walking tour.
Our guide made the difference. She did an especially good job
of weaving the art history into the history of commercial Venice.
The tour of the Frari was a special bonus and I want to convey
how much we enjoyed that part of the tour."
