A list of Shops & Stores in Rome

Where to shop in Rome

Throughout the city of Rome, the city's shops and stores vie to attract the passer-by with their elaborate window displays of colorful fashion items and numerous interesting oddities. The streets of Rome are continually over-flowing with shoppers from around the globe looking for their own version of Italian style.

The foremost commercial road of Rome is Via Condotti (Rome's version of 5th Avenue), where you can find luxury Italian and foreign boutiques such as Bulgari, Hermes, Louis Vuitton, Cartier, Brioni, Modigliani, Battistoni etc etc. The great designers ateliers are in the so-called "quadrilateral" area, which includes the most refined elite shopping roads of the capital. Via Borgognona, Piazza di Spagna, Via Bocca di Leone, Via Tomacelli, Via Mario dei Fiori, Via Belsiana, Via Gregoriana and Via del Babuino. The latter has recently been closet off to traffic and has prestigious boutiques like Armani, Etro, Chanel, Pomellato and Emporto, as well as historic antique dealers such as Carlo Maria Fallani, Franco and Alberto Di Castro, Fabrizio Apolloni, Antonnacci Efrti, Ida Benucci and Cesare Lampronti.

Another street for antique collectors to see is Via Margutta, which offers a variety of items from different periods and of various styles. Via Frattina is the kingdom of prêt-a-porter - along its sidewalks are Max Mara, Donna Karan, and the shoe shops of trendy Faustio Santini and classic Pollini.

On Via del Corso, alongside century-old shops ( such as Radiconcini which sells men's hats and classic accessories), there are a variety of megastores that sell everything from leather goods to athletic wear and casual clothing.

The area near Fontana di Trevi, with its high density of shops, is extremely important commercially, especially around the holiday times, for its variety of gift ideas (like the beautiful D'Alberti jewels). Of course, we cannot forget to mention Via Veneto, the most chic and famous street in Rome, thanks to the glamour of its cafes and stores that were ever present in Fellini's "La Dolce Vita". In between shops, a pleasant distraction would be to visit the Beauty Planet located in this area to enjoy a relaxing massage or beauty treatment.

The historic center (whose focal points are the Pantheon and Piazza Navona) is made up of an intricate network of small roads and piazzas, rendering the search for and discovery of shops, even more interesting as you pass-by delightful old hamlets, decorative baroque palaces and suggestive alleyways. It is impossible to mention one part in particular, the best idea is to take a stroll without a precise itinerary and seek out a shop that catches your fancy.

In these back-streets you'll delight in the great variety of shops and items available, and along the way you might discover a new and upcoming designers works. As you wander around Rome also keep looking out for stores displaying the word "Stock" on their shop windows, which indicates they are selling merchandise at discounted prices - A great source for those looking to find a bargain.
